Why We Open Low-MOQ Trials for First-Time Ecommerce Sellers
By Arnold Ji, Founder of SKDK SPORT
The first order from a new ecommerce seller may be the least profitable order we receive.
Sometimes, that is exactly why it matters.
A new seller does not yet know which product, size range, packaging, or listing will earn a reorder. Forcing a large MOQ at this stage may improve factory efficiency, but it can also leave the customer carrying inventory before the market has answered the most important question: will people buy it?
Why Low MOQ Matters for Ecommerce and Private-Label Sellers
For ecommerce founders and private-label sellers, the first order is a test — not a commitment to a full catalog. The product, the listing, the pricing, and the audience all need real market feedback before you scale.
At SKDK SPORT, for selected products we are open to low-MOQ trials. When suitable stock is available, there may be no production MOQ at all. We can also help narrow the first order to a focused set of products instead of pushing a full catalog.
This approach is particularly valuable for sellers starting with knee supports, ankle braces, wrist wraps, or sports protection accessories — categories where size runs and packaging options vary widely.
What Low MOQ Does and Does Not Mean
It is important to be clear: low MOQ does not mean every customized product can start from one piece. Materials, logo methods, packaging, and production setup still create real minimums.
For example, a custom knee brace with a silicone heat-transfer logo and custom packaging will always have a higher setup threshold than a plain stock product with no branding.
But during a first cooperation, our priority is often to control the customer's testing cost, not maximize our margin.
Shared Progress Over One Transaction
We believe long-term returns come after the customer finds a product worth reordering, improves the offer, and builds a stronger business.
Growing with a customer is meaningful because the relationship is built on shared progress, not one transaction. When our customers test affordably, learn quickly, and reorder with confidence, we grow together.
For Ecommerce Founders
What helped you most at the beginning of your private-label journey — a lower MOQ, better product selection, or clearer fulfillment support?
