Why We Open Low-MOQ Trials for First-Time Ecommerce Sellers
By Arnold Ji, Founder of SKDK SPORT
The first order from a new ecommerce seller may be the least profitable order we receive.
Sometimes, that is exactly why it matters.
A new seller does not yet know which product, size range, packaging, or listing will earn a reorder. Forcing a large MOQ at this stage may improve factory efficiency, but it can also leave the customer carrying inventory before the market has answered the most important question: will people buy it?
Why Low MOQ Matters for Ecommerce and Private-Label Sellers
For ecommerce founders and private-label sellers, the first order is a test — not a commitment to a full catalog. The product, the listing, the pricing, and the audience all need real market feedback before you scale.
At SKDK SPORT, for selected products we are open to low-MOQ trials. When suitable stock is available, there may be no production MOQ at all. We can also help narrow the first order to a focused set of products instead of pushing a full catalog.
This approach is particularly valuable for sellers starting with knee supports, ankle braces, wrist wraps, or sports protection accessories — categories where size runs and packaging options vary widely.
What Low MOQ Does and Does Not Mean
It is important to be clear: low MOQ does not mean every customized product can start from one piece. Materials, logo methods, packaging, and production setup still create real minimums.
For example, a custom knee brace with a silicone heat-transfer logo and custom packaging will always have a higher setup threshold than a plain stock product with no branding.
But during a first cooperation, our priority is often to control the customer's testing cost, not maximize our margin.
Shared Progress Over One Transaction
We believe long-term returns come after the customer finds a product worth reordering, improves the offer, and builds a stronger business.
Growing with a customer is meaningful because the relationship is built on shared progress, not one transaction. When our customers test affordably, learn quickly, and reorder with confidence, we grow together.
For Ecommerce Founders
What helped you most at the beginning of your private-label journey — a lower MOQ, better product selection, or clearer fulfillment support?

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum order quantity for private-label sports protection?
It depends on whether you want a stock product or a customized build. For selected products, when suitable stock is available, there may be no production MOQ at all. Add a logo, a custom material, or your own packaging and real minimums come back — materials, logo method, and production setup each create their own floor. We quote the actual minimum for your build, not a headline number.
Can I get a custom knee brace with my own logo in small quantities?
That one always carries a higher setup threshold. A custom knee brace with a silicone heat-transfer logo and custom packaging has to absorb the material minimum, the logo setup, and the packaging run before a single unit ships. A plain stock product with no branding sits at the other end of the same factory. Low MOQ means low, not zero.
Why would a factory take a first order it barely makes money on?
Because the first order is a test, not the business. A new seller doesn't yet know which product, size range, packaging, or listing earns a reorder, so during a first cooperation our priority is often to control your testing cost rather than maximize our margin. The returns come after you find something worth ordering again.
How many products should I include in a first order?
Fewer than you think. Narrow it to a focused set instead of a full catalog — the product, the listing, the pricing, and the audience all need real feedback before you scale. With knee supports, ankle braces, and wrist wraps, size runs and packaging options already complicate a single SKU. Adding ten more doesn't help.
Is a low-MOQ trial the right route for my business?
Yes, if you're at the testing stage — first-time private-label sellers working out what will actually reorder. Not if you already know your volume and want the unit price at full MOQ; at that point you're paying for setup you don't need. Tell us which stage you're at and we'll be straight about which side of that line you're on.
